The US Sportsbook Scene

2018 marked an arrival of a new era of gambling in the United States, with the repeal of PASPA on the 14th of May in 2018 by the US Supreme Court a watershed moment in the long fight against the prohibition of sports betting in the vast majority of states. New Jersey, which led the fight against PASPA in the Supreme Court, legalized sports betting nearly a month later on the 11th of June. It became the third state to do so, after Delaware established its own regulations a week earlier, though the state had an exemption under the PASPA law in the first place. Nevada meanwhile has had physical sportsbooks accept bets since 1949, with Las Vegas widely regarded as one of the gambling capitals of the world – though Macau has took over in more recent times. As the growth and momentum of online sports betting builds, it will be one of many states that sees its online sportsbook presence builds.

Now in the early stages of 2019, a total of eight states have passed legislation enacting full scale sports betting, with countless others joining the queue in what is set to be a whirlwind period in the face of a growing industry. In what is currently an ever-changing environment, regulations, laws, and the sportsbooks themselves will be constantly evolving and changing. It is important to understand that states will not all have the same regulations.

This site will be updated as more states introduce legislation, and more sportsbooks are introduced – providing you with the information you need to make an informed choice about where you bet.
